Microsoft has built a one-off Xbox console concealed inside a life-size model alligator, according to Eurogamer.pt. The machine, called the Series X-BITE, is a genuine Xbox Series X housed within the fake reptile, and the company is offering it as a sweepstakes prize. Only one unit exists.
The giveaway arrives as the release of GTA 6 approaches. Eurogamer.pt notes that Rockstar's game is set in a region modelled on Florida, an area associated with large alligator populations. Xbox does not mention GTA 6 in its own materials, but the timing and the choice of animal read as a nod to the game's setting.
Why it matters
Consoles are usually sold on specifications, and limited editions tend to mean a new shell or a printed pattern. This is something else: a functioning device buried inside a sculpted animal more than 1.5 metres long. As a piece of marketing it sits closer to a stunt than a product, and it lands in the weeks before one of the biggest game launches in years — a window in which every hardware maker is competing for attention.
The build also carries a small amount of craft credibility. The model was made by John Nolan Studio, a team that has previously created monsters for series including The Witcher, according to Eurogamer.pt.
What the prize actually contains
The alligator is longer than 1.5 metres, and a glowing Xbox emblem on its flank lets light through so the console inside can be seen. Its eyes are green and shaped like the brand's logo.
The winner also receives a special Xbox Wireless controller marked with tooth impressions, as though it had been bitten. Eurogamer.pt reports that the console works normally, but Xbox advises that it should be used for display only.
Entry is limited. The sweepstakes closes on 10 November, and only people aged 18 or over living in the United States are eligible. To enter, participants share the Xbox post with the hashtag #XbiteSweepstakes, according to Eurogamer.pt.
A familiar playbook, with a twist
Promotional hardware tied to a major release is not new, and neither is the practice of making a single unit to generate coverage rather than revenue. What is unusual here is the form. A console inside a predator is harder to ignore than a colourway, and it gives outlets something to photograph that a spec sheet cannot.
The Florida connection does most of the work. GTA 6's setting has been widely discussed since the game was announced, and alligators are among the most recognisable features of the state's wildlife. Xbox has not confirmed any link to the game, and Eurogamer.pt frames the alligator as an apparent reference to the game's environment rather than a formal tie-in.
That distinction matters. Without an official partnership, the promotion borrows the mood of a release it has no rights to, and it does so without naming it. The approach keeps Xbox clear of any contractual claim while still placing its branding in the same conversation.
The studio behind the build
John Nolan Studio's previous work on creature effects for television gives some indication of how the alligator was put together. Eurogamer.pt identifies the studio as the maker of the piece and notes its credits on The Witcher series. The result is a prop built to look like an animal rather than a console, with the hardware treated as something swallowed rather than installed.
That framing extends to the controller, where the bite marks complete the idea. The console's own visibility is limited to the glowing side emblem, which serves both as branding and as proof that a real machine sits inside.
What to watch
The sweepstakes closes on 10 November, so the winner will be drawn shortly before GTA 6's launch window. Whether Xbox follows with anything more directly tied to the game — or whether this remains a standalone joke — is the next thing to watch.
